Black-brown and Ivory Barista Mug
This mug is wheel thrown using a buff stoneware clay which I paint with an iron-rich layer of dark brown-black slip on the outside of the mug. Once fired, I dip the mug in a demi-matte ivory glaze, which interacts with the slip below to create lots of surface texture and colour variation, while the inside of the mug remains smooth and matte ivory. This mug features my more contemporary shape, called a barista style as it holds smaller volumes and lends itself well to foamed milk art when compared to my classic shape. Made in Margate, U.K.
